Read To Me Program

for babies & preschoolers

Our Read-To-Me Program enables babies and preschoolers to also take part in our Summer Reading Program. Parents, older siblings, caregivers, and grandparents who read aloud to young children will instill a love of  reading, help reluctant readers and share good books with young listeners.  Our library books which are read aloud to young children count towards prizes for both the reader and the listener.

Make a difference. Read a book with a child.

When you open a book, you open a mind.

Adult Reading Program

The importance of reading is often stressed for children, but reading is equally important for adults. Reading exercises the brain. New information, new ideas and new understanding help create new circuits in the brain and stimulate thought. The physical process of following print back and forth across a page exercises the eyes. An active mind remains young. The expression “being in a rut” is true. If you perform regular habit forming activities, your brain follows the same repetitive wave lengths while other circuits in your brain atrophy and new ones are not formed.

Exercise your mind by reading  2-3 hours a week. Think of the library as your fitness center and health club.  Visit the library and browse our shelves. There are thousands of wonderful books about many interesting subjects just waiting to be discovered.

A book a day may help keep Alzheimer’s away.
