Adult Reading
The importance of reading is often stressed for children, but
reading is equally important for adults. Reading exercises the
brain. New information, new ideas and new understanding help
create new circuits in the brain and stimulate thought. The
physical process of following print back and forth across a page
exercises the eyes. An active mind remains young. The expression
“being in a rut” is true. If you perform regular habit
forming activities, your brain follows the same repetitive wave
lengths while other circuits in your brain atrophy and new ones
are not formed.
Exercise your mind by reading 2-3 hours a week.
Think of the library as your fitness center and health club.
Visit the library and browse our shelves. There are thousands of
wonderful books about many interesting subjects just waiting to
be discovered.
A book a day may help keep Alzheimer’s away.

Discussion Group
Find out what books people are talking about. Discuss books with others who enjoy reading.
Recommend your favorites. Discuss the plots, characters,
settings and authors. Compare books with others
that are reminiscent of the same writing style, setting,
characters and movies. Please, do not reveal how a book
ends. We hope you will discover new books and be enticed into reading some of
the books discussed.

Friends
of Sanilac District Library
The Friends of
Sanilac District Library is an organization of citizens dedicated to promoting the continued growth of our library and its services throughout the Carsonville - Port Sanilac School District and Sanilac Township. Nominal dues create a wide base of membership giving moral and financial support to projects designed to benefit the library. All money raised from membership and fundraising events is used to provide additional library materials, computers, equipment and programs.
The
Friends of Sanilac District Library are a group of
people from all walks of life and all ages who share a
common belief that a good public library is a valuable
community asset that must be nourished and supported.
We would be pleased to have you as a Friend! Even though you may not want to work actively on a committee, there are many ways in which you can participate in our Friends Group. Simply joining and counting yourself among our Friends is one such way. |

Sanilac Literacy Council

Give someone the gift of reading! Good tutors share such qualities as patience, a positive attitude and caring. If you have these traits, you can help someone learn to read and write or learn to speak English. There are many ways to teach basic communication skills. During these workshops, you will learn:
a variety of tutoring strategies, to identify different learning styles,
to choose materials that best suit your student, to develop lesson plans based on individual needs
& goals and teaching techniques to help your students flourish. All sessions must be attended for
certification.

March Is Reading Month
A reading promotion from March 1 through National Library Week
in April.
March Is
Reading Month. Turn off the tube and turn to books. Try reading
out loud to your family. Encourage everyone to take a turn, even
if they only “read the pictures.” Share a peaceful silent
reading time. Stump the dictionary by reading words and taking
turns guessing definitions. Listen to an audio book
during dinner or chores. Make your own recording of a favorite
book for your kids or grandchildren. Read
a play out loud and everyone take a
role. Visit the library! |
