The Village of Port Sanilac and Sanilac District Library created a partnership to increase awareness and usage of the Bark Shanty Community Center and to provide extra library services. Reason #1: The Village wanted to offer movie nights but licensing is very expensive. Reason #2: Public libraries may contract for movie licensing at a reasonable rate but copyright requirements limit movie showings to only one specific library site. Reason #3: SDL needs space for programs but can’t afford to add onto the main facility. Solution: The Village is leasing Room #1 at the Bark Shanty Community Center to SDL as an exclusive library branch in order to legally enable SDL to provide movie licenses. A win-win for both entities.
The Bark Shanty Library Branch gives SDL the opportunity to offer programs and services which space constraints prohibited in the past. SDL is moving ahead one step at a time to implement these new possibilities. Traditional library services will not be duplicated at the Bark Shanty Library Branch.
Adult Programs: Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3. Alternating programs such as arts & crafts, cooking, gardening, history, music and more!
Book Sale: as space permits, a variety of audio books on CD, books and DVDs will be offered for "sale" by donation. Dates will be announced.
The Bark Shanty Library Branch is the fourth location managed by SDL: the main facility at 7130 Main Street in Port Sanilac plus the Carsonville-Port Sanilac Elementary & High School Libraries. Sanilac District Library is Growing To Meet Your Needs.
